Anti-Homophobia

Park Hall Academy is committed to promoting a culture of inclusion. This is about making sure, in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability – that everyone at PHA feels welcome, represented and included.

We want everyone to feel welcome, represented and included. This means

  1. Taking opportunities to educate each other about each other. Eg assemblies and lesson activities on gender identity and religious festivals such as Ramadan as well as celebrating heroes from minority backgrounds
  2. Creating extracurricular opportunities for staff and students to meet and support one another by talking about the things that matter to them.
  3. ‘Calling Out’ and challenging behaviour that is offensive, insensitive or insulting.

In particular, we have shared with students (via assemblies, form time and electronic notice boards) our commitment to combatting homophobia by

  1. Working together to combat the use of homophobic, racist and sexist slurs.
  2. Holding fortnightly ‘Pride Groups’ for all LGBT+ students and their allies.
  3. Provide visible support for minority students through the use of rainbow badges, posters and digital screens.
  4. Broaden education on diversity and inclusion through assemblies, tutor time, PSHE and regular lessons. We will celebrate heroes from minority backgrounds in lessons and on displays around school.

In addition to this, any student that experiences or witness’s homophobia should report this in the same way as any other form of bullying. This is by talking to any member of staff (such as a Head of Year) or by using the ‘Student Concerns’ button on the Park Hall website.
